Program Notes:
Still Life with Fruit was written in the Spring of 1996 for the McCormick Duo. This is a fast paced work in three large or six small sections, depending on how you want to hear it. Either way, Still Life... is an arch form, although the returning material is significantly altered, particularly by register and dynamics. A major concern was balancing the two instruments so that the work is not a flute solo with percussion accompaniment. One of the ways I dealt with this was to change the relationship between the two from section to section. As a result, there are bits where one or the other dominates as well as parts where the two are equal.
